The hot and dreary summers of Mumbai especially if you have to bear the local train travel seems to be nothing but a dark cloud. For entrepreneurs though it could be a great time to experiment with Summer Startups – learn some new stuff, experiments and maybe even make some good bucks ;)

The Lemonade Stall
Nothing beats the hot summer image than a cool lemonade stall under a shady tree on the roadside. Sure the traffic would be honking and people would be yelling in the mobiles around you but your clients would surely bless you to provide them with this cool treat. Also you don’t have to do any big business planning just play the Lemonade Tycoon game a few times and you are set!

Astrology Booth
The age old image of astrologers sitting under a tree and giving people gyan about their future can be a great stress buster (as you are sitting under the shade of the tree!). It can also use some amount of innovation. Why not brain storm and start an astrology booth! Potentially very lucrative as people pay good dough to know about their future!

Rent-An-Umbrella Stand
Just buy a bunch of umbrellas and have stands in crowded localities. As the sun beats down your umbrellas get rented! While you can drink off on the money made, just allocate the work of actual renting and tracking umbrellas to any local street guy – thus even providing employment to the jobless ;)

What do you think guys? Are you planning to try your hand at entrepreneurship this Summer? ;)

  1. I’m not sure how serious this post is but I would be happy to work with a bunch of youngsters who want to do something worthwhile rather than while away their summer. And they could make some money as well.
I have an e-learning platform, http://www.surroundschool.com, for which we need folks to gather content from open source repositories on the web for a variety of interesting technical and non-technical subject.

  2. Of course, it’s just a casual post. But a couple of those ideas have good potential if the kids want to use their time/creativity productively. :)

Btw, if you’re looking for help in finding candidate for a “content job” at your startup, why don’t you give http://www.sutralite.com a try? :)
